Picky Music Player App Reviews

Use this App, and make a difference

I very rarely write reviews. A product has to be a real stand out to spend this amount of time. But this is important. As quickly as possible I will tell you why this App is breed then the pre-installed iTunes "App". Picky is like the older iTunes App. Its good! It does the job. iTunes is terrible. It reroutes users to their store. They monopolize, manipulate and waste so much of a users precious time trying to get you to buy more music. Because they make money off of it. The worst thing for any customer, is to have their product tied to the machine that uses the product with no limitations. It creates bias, and complications when it comes to servicing the customer they PAYED already for both services/items. I have been an Apple user and fan for 10 years now. But those days are over. They used to be the good guys, the underdogs, and PCs dominated. Now that they have so much power, they abuse it and dont listen to their followers. The people who buy their products. They are just a large corporate pig now. And the amount of money theyve cost me is sickening. I would recommend staying far away from Apple, as they are only getting worse by the minute. Unfortunately its too late for me. I learned on a Mac. I have tried to switch but have been unable. And they abuse the power they have over their customers. Its pretty disgusting frankly. iTunes sucks. Take it off your Dock on your phone and replace it with this App, or any others that are well reviewed. (This helps, because then you dont hit iTunes by habit and you can used to an App that actual works, and doesnt send you to their store FOR NO REASON!) Ugh, they are just the worst now

Most enjoyable application of the musical variety

I was wandering about, wondering how I could organize my vast array of music in a comprehensive fashion, when alas! I happened upon this application and it proved to be the most wondrous way to listen to my collection of music. Henceforth I shall only use this application. Cheerio!

Excellent! A must have!

This is an excellent music app, its what Apples offering should be, but is not. Highly recommended, grab a copy, you wont be disappointed.

Very useful!

Picky is unique in its functionality to pick out individual songs. A simple, but very effective quality-of-life improvement! The dynamic player is also quite gorgeous.

Great app!

Very nice stream-lined design. An excellent alternative to the built-in Music app, particularly if youre partial to listening/filtering songs by artist.

Essential

I use Picky every day — but then again, I built it, so Im a bit biased

Excellent replacement for Apple Music

May 9, 2016--downgrading my review to 2stars or less. The app just stopped working today. No changes on my end. What a hassle and shame. After getting a new IPhone SE, I almost gagged on how terrible the Music app has gotten. Picky quickly fixed that. Worth it for iPhone. The filter for only showing artists with a configurable number of tracks is brilliant. Cons: -Bottom menu should be customizable including audiobooks. -Needs search box. -Having an iPad version that costs more money is cheesy. This is a music player, cmon. A fine app, highly recommended.

Best alternative

We all know we hate the native Music app (especially the newer Apple Music one. Utterly horrible, cluttered UI and design. Someone needs to be fired). Picky is the one of the absolute best alternatives Ive seen. Streamlined, plenty of options (the dark theme being my favorite), no frills, no unnecessary fluff, no clutter, just pure music. Also, you can display albums in PROPER chronological order. I cant even tell you how much that bothers me in the native Music app. So, it lives up to its name, really. Picky (yes, I am). It has been a bit buggy since the launch of Apple Music (thanks again Apple), but nothing breaking. Just get in touch with the developer if you experience anything. Hes very communicative and helpful.

Highly useful, could use improvements

I use Picky instead of Apple’s Music app. Its no-frill user interface is perfect for efficiency and ease of use. Wish Picky supports bookmarking (marking the track I am listening to) - very useful when I listen to an audiobook. One problem I have with the interface: the “shuffle” and “Repeat” buttons are often pressed by accident because of their location close to the Home button.

Good companion for the built in app.

Nice to be able to easily play genres or a single album from an artist without resorting to a search entry in the stock music app. Wish the genre filter was available in the artists view too.

My go-to Music app.

Annoyed at the clunky iOS music app? Miss the feel of the older iOS music app from years past? Look no further! Picky is the music player youve been looking for. It organizes all my artists albums without displaying their pesky song listings along with it. No more unnecessary scrolling through song titles to find the album I want from a particular band. I can pick my music with ease and quickly. Picky also has the ability to hide all that annoying iCloud music so only the music that plays is the music I added from my laptop. Good riddance! No more random streaming of old purchased iTunes music that I do not want to see or hear. Spend that dollar and enjoy the convenience of this easy to navigate and awesomely organized alternate music player app.

I love it!

Definitely an upgrade from the native music app that Apple butchered in iOS 10. Awesome app, awesome developer, just really satisfied with this. Thank you!

Not good on an iPad

Loaded it on my iPad... not really for this device is it? Shouldve looked closer at the details I guess. The alphabet selector is misaligned: tapping a letter brings you to items for the previous letter (e.g. Tap T, get S). Also, scrolling through the song list is jerky (I only have about 5,000 items). Not an enjoyable user experience. Since its a wrapper around the native app, its just additional overhead for limited benefit. Sorry, but I uninstalled it after a few minutes. Im sure that fore some users its just fine. Just not for me.

Finally, a decent iTunes alternative

<rant>I cant tell u how much i hate iTunes. I just want to listen to my music. I dont want to share, like, and see whats trending. I dont want to buy music by similar artists. not interested in putting my music in the cloud. Im a neanderthal who wants an mp3 player app.</rant> This is a great app that does what a music app should. Its still missing a few key features. would be nice to see Genres. And also would be nice to be able to drill down from genre to artist to album to songs.

Great App

Apple Music player in IOS 10 is really bad. This app is great. It actually lets you easily find, sort and play the songs on your phone. Wow, theyre ahead of their time!

Replace IOS 10 Debacle

IOS 10 replaced album covers with non pertinent microphone icon. This program restores the album art, and has a nice page up display for album contents under now playing. Has nice sorting and filtering functions. Biggest drawback is that there is no delete function. Have to switch apple app to delete songs.

Good app

Great app to replace the terrible new music app in iOS 10. Only problem is when you close the app your music keeps playing!??

Doesnt do what I needed it to do

This app doesnt combine musical podcasts with music. lame

Replacement for Crappy Default Music App

Apple keeps revising its music app, pushing my library further and further into the background. Im not interested in their monthly service; I just want to get to my music and playlists without quickly. This app is fantastic because it allows me to do just that. The interface is clean, simple, and straightforward. Its ridiculous that I had to buy a third party app to get this basic functionality, but Im glad these guys made it available.

Replacement for cluttered Apple Music

This app has simplified my music listening and is reminiscent of the days of the simpler iTunes. It offers everything you need and nothing you dont. Adjust filters to easily show or hide artists with only a few hit singles. No more annoying songs showing up from 2006 that your brother downloaded using your iTunes account that werent downloaded to your device. Finally, it gets rid of the horrendous default microphone icon for the artist image on iTunes music for iOS 10. I couldnt be happier - well worth the purchase.
